What is Wegovy?
Wegovy is a Medsafe-approved prescription medicine for weight management in adults. Its active ingredient is semaglutide, which belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It’s prescribed alongside a reduced-energy diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
How does Wegovy work?
Semaglutide mimics GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after eating. It signals fullness to your brain and slows how quickly food leaves your stomach, so hunger and cravings ease and smaller portions feel like enough.
Is Wegovy right for me?
Wegovy® is generally considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes or sleep apnoea. It isn’t suitable for everyone. Your practitioner reviews your health history and tells you plainly whether it fits.

Wegovy® (semaglutide injection 2.4 mg) is an unfunded prescription medicine for weight loss in adults who meet certain BMI criteria, used with diet and exercise. It has risks and benefits. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation and abdominal pain. Use strictly as directed and see your practitioner if you have side effects. Not everyone is eligible.
